1. What does NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota do?
NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in South Dakota.  We organize for reproductive rights in communities throughout South Dakota, lobby legislators in Pierre, endorse and work for pro-choice candidates for office in South Dakota, take part in community outreach, and work in coalition with other statewide women's organizations.
2. Does NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota support any political parties?
NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota is a non-partisan organization.  We support pro-choice candidates for office regardless of their political affiliation.
3. Is NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota only interested in abortion rights?
NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota believes every woman has a right to make individual decisions about contraception, abortion, pregnancy and childbearing. We favor increased access to family planning services as well as responsible, comprehensive sexuality education. Unfortunately, the same groups that oppose abortion rights often also oppose these common sense, preventive measures that make abortion less necessary.
4. What is the difference between NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota and NARAL Pro-Choice America?
NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota is a state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America, which handles policy and candidates on the national level.  As organizations we are separate and distinct.  Every penny that you give to NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota stays in South Dakota, while funds donated to NARAL Pro-Choice America fund national initiatives.
5. Why should I become a member of NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota?

Our ability to influence government policy is largely based on the number of paid members we have, making policy makers aware of the thousands of pro-choice citizens we represent throughout the state of South Dakota.  Additionally, per federal law, we are only able to provide information about our endorsements to members of our organization.  Membership in NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota is the best way to stay up-to-date on reproductive rights issues in South Dakota.

6. What does it mean to be pro-choice?
Pro-choice people support every woman’s fundamental right to make her own choice about pregnancy and child-bearing, including abortion.  People who are pro-choice also believe that women and men are entitled to scientifically accurate sexuality education and information about contraception.  NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota works to develop a constituency of South Dakotans who hold pro-choice values.
7. What is Roe v. Wade?

On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court voted 7-2 to strike down a Texas law prohibiting abortion, citing that it violated a woman’s right to privacy. This landmark decision is known as Roe v. Wade.

8. What is the morning after pill?

The morning-after pill, also known as emergency contraception (EC) or Plan B, is a strong dose of birth control that, if taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex, is up to 89% effective in preventing pregnancy. Unlike RU-486 or mifepristone, it does not terminate a pregnancy.
