Also known as “gag rules.”  These bans prohibit health-care providers from counseling about or referring women for abortion services.  The bans are usually targeted at health-care professionals who receive government funding and/or participate in government programs.

Although South Dakota does not currently have such a policy in place, the South Dakota Department of Health website’s pregnancy-related information is designed to deter women from obtaining abortions, much like the biased counseling.  The site refers only to how women can find “abortion alternatives,” but not to where to obtain an abortion procedure.
